How to Print Screen an entire Webpage on Google… PC Made Easys Blog

How to Print Screen an entire Webpage on Google Chrome

For this video tutorial I decided to show you one little trick I use when I need to print screen a full webpage. I’ve used other tools to print a full webpage into a PDF, but most of the times I wanted to do that I needed to make a couple of changes to the image, so I had to do a bunch of other things to be able to edit such image.

I have also tried to use the print screen button in my keyboard to copy part by part the entire web page and then line all the parts together and then save it as a PNG. This doesn’t sound hard to do and it isn’t, but that also takes lots of steps of time and good vision which I unfortunately don’t have.

With the Screen Capture app by Google I don’t need to all of those extra things and it takes me just a couple of seconds. I discovered this app a couple of months ago, but never really used it before until a couple of days ago and it can be quite useful. In the video I only talk about using it to capture a full webpage fast and easy, but it also has capabilities of capturing only a piece of the page, capture the visible content is sort of like what print screen does but only in the browser capture an entire page which was mentioned already and capture a screen region which is exactly what the print screen button does.

When you take your screenshot, a new tab with the image will open. You will notice you have a couple of tools here: you can highlight regions, blur and block parts from showing, add text and use lines and arrows.

The only downside I find for this app is the fact that it is designed to work more for the browser than anything else. What I am referring is to the “capture screen region” option. For example, lets say you need to capture a picture of your desktop without any other windows obstructing it and you try to use the “capture screen region” option in the app. You will find out that you cannot really do that since you have to be looking at the browser window to be able to click on the option and once the option is activated, you cannot move around anything so you will end up having the browser window in your “shot”. I guess the only way to prevent this is if you had two monitors attached to the same computer, but I haven’t tried this myself. You could use the print screen button and paint for this particular task anyway, so it’s not all bad.

If you have any questions about this app, you can leave a comment below or in the video page , contact me on Twitter , Facebook , my new Google or in my ask box .

I hope this app helps you in things like school projects or tutorials like it will help me.

WatiN

Using WatiN from a Console Application Start your favourite . Create a new console application named WatiNGettingStarted. Next, add a reference to WatiN.Core.dll by opening the Add Reference dialog and selecting the assembly from the WatiN installation directory. WatinConsoleExample.cs and replace the existing code with the following code. This code will: Open a new Internet Explorer window and go to the Google.com website might be redirected to a localised version Type the text WatiN in the search text field which can be uniquely identified in the html code by the name q. Click the search button which can be uniquely identified by the text Google Search is the value attribute of the html input element System using WatiN.Core namespaceWatiNGettingStarted class WatiNConsoleExample static void Main args Open a new Internet Explorer window and goto the google website. Search” Uncomment the following line if you want to close Internet Explorer and the console window immediately. Build and start the project and see Internet Explorer go to the Google website, search for WatiN and finally show the results webpage. Using IE Developer Toolbar with WatiN Lets make this example a bit more interesting by writing the results statistics to the console window. First we need to find out how we can get this information from the Google results webpage by using WatiN.

After opening the Dom Explorer with the View DOM button from the DevToolBar, select Select element by click in the Find menu and click on the results table cell on the webpage. The DOM Explorer then shows where the table cell is located in the DOM hierarchy screenshot Since the results table cell hasnt a unique identifier, like an Id or name, we cant get a reference to the table cell in an easy way. We need to use the hierarchy of the html elements in the page to get to the results table cell. First lets concentrate on finding the table the results table cell is located in. The table is the third table so we could use the Table collection to get a reference to this table. The code would look like this: Table table ie.Tables There is another way to get this same table, using the classname of this Table. Since no other table has the classname t assigned to it, this makes it unique to the table we are looking for. To find this table by its classname we will use the Find.By factory method like this: Table table ie. At this point we have a reference to the table the results statistics are in. Next, find the table row and table cell the actual info is located in. Finding the right table row is simple, there is only one row in this table. To get the results table cell we will use the TableCells collection. The text in the second table cell contains the info we are looking for. This results in the following code: string resultStats table. The last thing we have to do is write this info to the Console window. System using WatiN.Core namespaceWatiNGettingStarted class WatiNConsoleExample static void Main args Open an new Internet Explorer Window and goto the google website. Search” Find the table cell which shows the search result statistics. Uncomment the following line if you want to close Internet Explorer and the console window immediately.

FILEnetworks Blog F.O.S.I. Appz homepage Direct downloads of retail software

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks 1 Cool Sites , DDL Forums 13 Comments Out of all warez softwarez and programz sites on the Internet, F. Started in 1997, FOSI continues to offer direct download links to full version software even today in 2009. I’ve been using this site since the early 2000s and I’ve got to say that it hasn’t let me down even once.

If you’ve been a frequent visitor to FILEnetworks Blog, you should be no stranger to private and public torrent trackers from which you can download almost any software for free. As opposed to private trackers, FOSI offers direct HTTP download links to software hosted on his site – these can be downloaded without the need for registration or any special software. Just install and you will have access to the full, unlimited retail version of the software.

Note that due to the limited bandwidth, only 36 software are available for download on any given moment. Jetaudio Plus VX, Tweaknow Powerpack, VirtualDJ Pro, Easy CD Recorder and many more. The page is frequently updated when a newer version of the software is available. During my several years experience with this site, I’ve never run across a virus or spyware infected download or found any adware, spyware or popups. There are however lots of on site advertisements which contain pornographic images. The site is known to change URLs from time to time perhaps due to security reasons.

What about some quotes by famous and powerful feminists? Comins, Vassar College, Assistant Dean of Student Life in Time, June 3, 1991, p.

MAN : an obsolete life form an ordinary creature who needs to be watched a contradictory baby-man ” TESTOSTERONE POISONING : now it has been though that the level of testosterone in men is normal simply because they have it. Steinem in Revolution from Within: A Book of Self-Esteem, pp. 259-261.

I believe that women have a capacity for understanding and compassion which a man structurally does not have, does not have it because he cannot have it.

Under patriarchy, no woman is safe to live her life, or to love, or to mother children. Under patriarchy, every woman is a victim, past, present, and future. Under patriarchy, every woman’s daughter is a victim, past, present, and future.

Compare victims’ reports of rape with women’s reports of sex. Brownmiller, Against Our Will: Men, Women, and Rape, p. 5.. Dworkin, Letters from a War Zone, p. 114..

When asked: “ You were once quoted as saying your idea of the ideal man is a woman with a dick. ” Dr Greer denying that she said it “I have a great deal of difficulty with the idea of the ideal man. As far as I’m concerned, men are the product of a damanged gene. They pretend to be normal but what they’re doing sitting there with benign smiles on their faces is they’re manufacturing sperm. We pop one follicle every 28 days, whereas they are producing 400 million sperm for each ejaculation, most of which don’t take place anywhere near an ovum. Greer, at a Hilton Hotel literary lunch, promoting her book The Change Women, Aging and the Menopause .

Sex as desired by the class that dominates women is held by that class to be elemental, urgent, necessary, even if or even though it appears to require the repudiation of any claim women might have to full human standing.

In everything men make, they hollow out a central place for death, let its rancid smell contaminate every dimension of whatever still survives. In art they celebrate it, and in life they commit it.

We have long known that rape has been a way of terrorizing us and keeping us in subjection. Gerda Lerner in Who Stole Feminism: How Women Have Betrayed Women, p. 55..

“We can’t destroy the inequities between men and women until we destroy marriage.

Marriage as an institution developed from rape as a practice. Rape, originally defined as abduction, became marriage by capture. Marriage meant the taking was to extend in time, to be not only use of but possession of, or ownership.

The nuclear family must be destroyed, and people must find better ways of living together Whatever its ultimate meaning, the break-up of families now is an objectively revolutionary process

Who cares how men feel or what they do or whether they suffer? They have had over 2000 years to dominate and made a complete hash of it.

As long as some men use physical force to subjugate females, all men need not. The knowledge that some men do suffices to threaten all women.

My feelings about men are the result of my experience. Like a Jew just released from Dachau, I watch the handsome young Nazi soldier fall writhing to the ground with a bullet in his stomach and I look briefly and walk on.

All patriarchists exalt the home and family as sacred, demanding it remain inviolate from prying eyes.

The traditional flowers of courtship are the traditional flowers of the grave, delivered to the victim before the kill.

Men renounce whatever they have in common with women so as to experience no commonality with women and what is left one piece of flesh a few inches long, the penis.

Man-hating is everywhere, but everywhere it is twisted and transformed, disguised, tranquilized, and qualified. It coexists, never peacefully, with the love, desire, respect, and need women also feel for men. Satan-like, men possess women, making their wicked fantasies and desires women’s own.

I feel what they feel: man-hating, that volatile admixture of pity, contempt, disgust, envy, alienation, fear, and rage at men.

“There are no boundaries between affectionate sex and slavery in male world.

All men are good for is fucking, and running over with a truck”. A University of Maine Feminist Administrator, quoted by Richard Dinsmore, who brought a successful civil suit against the University in the amount of $600,000. Richard had protested the quote was dismissed thereafter on the grounds of harassment and responded by bringing suit against the University. 1995 settlement.

Men are rapists, batterers, plunderers, killers these same men are religious prophets, poets, heroes, figures of romance, adventure, accomplishment, figures ennobled by tragedy and defeat. Men have airplanes, guns, bombs, poisonous gases, weapons so perverse and deadly that they defy any authentically human imagination.

I was, in reality, bred by my parents as my father’s concubine What we take for granted as the stability of family life may well depend on the sexual slavery of our children.

We are taught, encouraged, moulded by and lulled into accepting a range of false notions about the family. As a source of some of our most profound experiences, it continues to be such an integral part of our emotional lives that it appears beyond criticism. In this way, privacy and family are reduced to nothing more than aspects of the master plan, which is male domination. Democratic freedoms and the need to keep the state’s nose out of our personal affairs are rendered meaningless. The real reason our society cherishes privacy is because men have invented it as an excuse to conceal their criminality. The family isn’t a place where battery and marital rape sometimes happen but where little else apparently does. Oppression is something that one group of people commits against another group, specifically because of a characteristic shared by the latter group color, sex or age, etc. The oppressors are indeed FUCKED UP by being masters, but those masters are not OPPRESSED. Any master has the alternative of divesting himself of sexism or racism oppressed have no alternative they have no power but to fight. In the long run, Women’s Liberation will of course free men in the short run it’s going to cost men a lot of privilege, which no one gives up willingly or easily. Sexism is NOT the fault of women your fathers, not your mothers”.

“The institution of sexual intercourse is anti-feminist”.
” is nothing more or less than a conscious process of intimidation by which all men keep all women in a state of fear”.

MALE: a variant of or deviation from the category of female. The first males were mutants male sex represents a degeneration and deformity of the female. Joyce Trebilcot of Washington University, as quoted in Who Stole Feminism: How Women Have Betrayed Women.

Men, as a group, tend to be abusive, either verbally, sexually or emotionally. There are always the exceptions, but they are few and far between am married to one of them There are different levels of violence and abuse and individual men buy into this system by varying degrees. Message on FEMISA, responding to a request for arguments that men are unnecessary for a child to grow into mature adulthood. And: Another posting on FEMISA: “Considering the nature and pervasiveness of men’s violence, I would say that without question, children are better off being raised without the presence of men. What matters is that the feminists who do believe that have the power to change, block, and influence laws and guess what?

Feminists fight to hurt men just radical feminists either info is from oratorasaurus Father’s rights group want shared parenting custody to be the default if both parents want custody and neither parent is unfit. They feel that men should not be punished for being men, and that women should not be awarded custody to their kids simply for being women. Currently women are awarded primary custody almost all the time, even if the husband was the stay-at-home Dad and the woman was the breadwinner. They feel that a man’s life should not be ruined simply on the allegation of a woman who may be a vindictive liar. Currently, a woman can accuse a man of rape for no reason, and the man’s name is splashed in the paper and his life is ruined. So, they fought for laws granting men anonymity until charged with the crime of rape convicted, just charged. Also see here , the London Feminist Network campaigning to defeat the proposal.

Men want an end to the justice system favouring women simply because they are women, and giving men harsher sentences simply because they are men.

Feminists fought against this , arguing that no woman should be sent to jail, even women who had murdered multiple people .

Men want equal treatment when victims of domestic violence, and to not be arrested for the crime of “being male” under primary aggressor policies.

Feminists fought against this trying to suppress evidence showing that half of domestic violence is done by women, by threatening the researchers with bomb threats, death threats, etc.

And sadly, they were successful in this effort of propaganda. For decades, and continuing today, violent men are convicted and punished by the state, while violent women are left to freely terrorize and harm their partners.

The feminist definition of domestic violence has skewed arrest and prosecution philosophies, resulting primarily in having only male batterers criminally pursued.

Men want female rapists to be arrested, charged, and convicted with rape. In Western countries, women are rarely punished when raping men, due to the biased legal system. In some countries, women cannot punished when raping men, since rape is defined as a male-perpetrated crime.

Feminists fought against this in Israel , claiming that changing the law would result in men filing false rape claims.

Men don’t want to be thrown in jail because they lost their jobs and temporarily cannot pay child support.

Feminists fought against this, trying to lower the amount to $5000 a man is guilty of a felony for not paying child support. If a man loses a decent-paying job, he will now be a felon, go to jail, lose his right to vote, AND be unable to find future jobs he cannot regain an equal-paying job within a few months.

Men want equal economic support and help from the government. When the recession hit, male-dominated fields like construction lost millions of jobs, while female-fields like education and healthcare gained jobs. So the government proposed an economic stimulus for those fields.

Feminists successfully fought against this, arguing that it was discrimination to support men, and caused the government to give money to women who didn’t deserve it. Hundreds professional feminists complained against the “sexism” of helping men had lost jobs and not women had gained jobs

A representative of the Michigan National Organization for Women testified in opposition to t he Revocation of Paternity Act , which stopped the old law which stated that if a woman was married and cheated on her husband, the resulting child is considered to be legally the husband’s and the biological father had no legal rights to fight for custody or parenting time with his biological child.

As you can see, the claim that feminism fight for men’s rights is a blatant lie. Feminists also are happy to harm men’s rights, as shown above.

Some may argue that these cases of feminists harming men is not “representative” of feminism. I ask you: Are there any cases of feminists helping men?

Getting started with Selenium WebDriver in Java on Windows

Note My personal opinion is, that Java is the most popular programming language in the Selenium project.

IDE The official one: The 5 Minute Getting Started Guide Note: Here you find an example with HtmlUnitDriver. I experienced too often, that HtmlUnitDriver wasn’t working even with correct Selenium code, so I recommand not using it at all. IDE, without Maven This approach is, regarding Java, the most “back-to-the-roots” one but takes the most time. If you like to start with Selenium while refreshing you Java knowledge take this one.

All guides are different ways for the same goal: get your first Selenium program run.

Some backgrounds to Java This paragraph is only a little refreshment for your aged Java knowledge. If you never had Java knowledge, you should go for a tutorial. If you haven’t done yet, download the Java JDK from the download page the most actual Java Platform The Compiler is necessary, because you have to compile the file of your source-code yourname .java to become an executable file. The program then can be executed by java yourname in your Command Prompt you navigated in the directory, where the yourname .class resides

Firefox To run your first Selenium program on Firefox, you need to download Firefox here and install it.

Selenium Setup For working with Selenium, you need to include the right Selenium library. There are plenty of libraries available in the Selenium project, which probably is confusing in the beginning: download page . A good choice is the latest version of selenium-server-standalone-x.y.z.jar y and z will be digits e.g. 2.28.0 at the time of writing this library contains everything you need for your first steps in Selenium. Example public static void main args Create a new instance of the Firefox driver Notice that the remainder of the code relies on the interface, not the implementation.

As this Selenium program is just a normal Java program, you have to compile the sourcecode-file. For the Java Compiler to find your Selenium library, you have to provide it in the so-called classpath . This is the composition of the classpath: 1. quote 2. the path to the folder where you put in the selenium-server-standalone- x.y.z .jar.

If everything is ok, you find Example.class in your folder.
Now Firefox should start, write “Cheese!” in google search and finally you should find in the Command Prompt: “Page title is: Google”. The browser-window is not closing, as you might admire the results for some time!

Type 2 Diabetes Cure or Control

Type 2 Diabetes Cure or Control

Type 2 diabetes blog concentrating on possible causes and cures, along with nutritional and exercise information.

Someone sent me a link to the apparent latest technology of having your EKG’s done in the Doctor’s office and savings perhaps hundreds or thousands of dollars in the process. I have NO comment on this entire procedure at this point and question if it will truly get off the ground as over the years, I have found the medical community at large to have fondness for $$$$. Time will tell and I will try and stay on top of any news in this regard. Dan Hey, you never know, it could be legit and the wave of the future. Might also cut down on the 1,000,000 heart attacks per year in the USA and over 650,000 fatalities from same. The smart phone tests can apparently do blood tests, saliva, urine, sweat, and yes even untra sound scans of one’s heart. The average ultrasound echo cardiogram costs around $800 per person as performed by a lab. When you multiply that by 20 million of those test per year, that adds up to $1600000000 dollars a year. The smart phone test apparently runs about $100 per person and is NON-evasive. No shaving your chest, no IV’s and hoses hanging out of your veins etc. It is also MUCH quicker and does NOT require going to a LAB or perhaps making two or three visits to get the job done. Maybe we need to start inquiring about this when you see your cardiologist or doctor next time. Perhaps it will speed up and demand and the technology? Linus Pauling’s Recommendations For Heart Health Supplementation

Thought with the beginning of a new year, I would do a brief review on Dr. Matthias Rath’s recommendations on the “Unified Theory” of heart disease as it pertains to the disease itself being linked to a Vitamin C deficiency rather than a cholesterol problem. I have numerous posts on this subject already with much more detail than this one has, however from time to time it is good to just run the recommended dose of nutrients based on your condition. PREVENTION: If you are otherwise healthy with no known genetic pre-disposed risk of heart disease in your family tree, then you would want to consider: 3000 mg gram vitamin C per day, along with 1000 to 2000 mg of an essential amino acid and 500 mg to 1000 mg of a non-essential amino acid MILDLY THERAPEUTIC: you do have heart disease or stroke in your immediate family and in your gene pool Mother, father, sister, brother has had a heart attack or stroke or diagnosed with heart disease to preferably 6000 mg of Vitamin C each day and to 3000 mg of L-Lysine along with 1000 mg of L-Proline THERAPEUTIC: If you yourself have had a heart attack or stroke and signs of heart disease then: 6000 mg of Vitamin C and up to 8000 mg or more along with 4000 to 5000 mg of L-Lysine and up to 2000 mg of L-Proline. In addition depending on what site you visit additional nutrients of benefit include Vitamin E, Vitamin D3, CO-enzyme Q10, magnesium Omega 3 fatty acids, and others. I am currently on 8000 to 10,000 mg of vitamin C a product called C-salts SEE my other posts of types of vitamin C I also take 4000 to 5000 mg of L-Lysine either by tablet form along with 1000 mg of L-Proline. Blood thinners would be considered coumadin, plavix, even 81 mg aspirin a day therapy, and could include NOT LIMITED TO warfarin, heparin, lovenox, fragmin, eliquis, pradaxa, xarelto. ANOTHER CAUTION is too much Vitamin K from otherwise healthy GREEN SMOOTHIES , green leafy vegetables etc. PLEASE consult with your doctor, cardiologist, or naturopath etc. BEFORE TAKING HIGH DOESES OF VITAMIN C IF ON ANY SORT OF BLOOD THINNER REGIMEN. Following is a LINK with more detailed information on Vitamin C and Dr.

THE BASIC ORTHOMOLECULAR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CONTROLLING HEART DISEASE By Owen R Fonorow, Naturopath Linus Pauling specifically recommended high oral doses of vitamin C and the amino acid lysine. Other elements in the following Pauling Therapy protocol, ordered by importance, account for many variables. These recommendations are based on the experience of more than a decade recommending Pauling’s protocol, and they feature Pauling’s earlier advice published in 1986. This protocol is designed to help overcome a poor diet, advancing age, or the use of prescription drugs commonly given to heart patients. PROTOCOL Cardiologist have been kept in the dark about the vitamin C connection. Several exacerbate heart conditions and should be eliminated in favor of the following othomolecular protocols: 1. The half-life of vitamin C in the blood stream is 30 minutes. NIH findings indicate that a minimum of 500 mg every 4 hours leads to highest sustained blood levels. Trouble with bloating after your vitamin C? Take Lysine 3000 to 6000 mg to 6 g daily for the maximum therapeutic value. Take 2000 to 3000 mg to 3 g daily for prevention. Supplement Coenzyme Q10 – 300 mg Note: Vitamin C and several vitamins will help stimulate your own synthesis of CoQ10. CoQ10 is a vital substance for energy and proper heart function. Popular drugs interfere with your body’s own production of CoQ10, and they may lead to heart failure. NEW: Eliminate man-made fats, such as trans fats and hydrogenated oils. Supplement Omega-3 rich oils, e.g. evening primrose, flaxseed, and certain fish oils. This benefit probably results from restored insulin-mediated glucose C uptake into cells. Note: Following an Atkins-style diet will eliminate most trans fats because these “poisons” appear mostly in processed carbohydrate foods such as cookies, crackers, snacks, etc. Natural saturated fats are superior to any fats or oils processed for longer shelf life. Take the amino acid proline from 250 mg to 2000 mg daily. This factor, added to Pauling’s original protocol, and recommended by Mathias Rath, may lower elevated Lp within 6 to 14 months. It is difficult to suggest an optimum dose for everyone because the healthy body can manufacture its own proline. A few alternative doctors recommend 2 g mg but the Tower HeartTechnology formula has produced consistent good results. It can apparently lower Lp with smaller dosages of proline. Follow Linus Pauling’s heart and cardiovascular recommendations as provided in his book 1986 HOW TO LIVE LONGER AND FEEL BETTER Linus Pauling’s Basic Vitamin Advice is Centered on Vitamin C, and adds: Natural Vitamin E – 800 iu 3200 iu Gamma Tocopherol Per Doctor Sinatra’s Miracle of CoQ10 book, an epidemiological WHO study found that low vitamin E is highly predictive of heart attack. Their findings were that heart attack is 70 more likely when serum levels of vitamin E are low, than because of either high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Vitamin A – 20,000 to 40,000 iu Super B-Complex Daily Multiple Vitamin Low Sugar Plenty of Water NEW: Eat salt, but only unrefined salt, Brownstein discovered literature that a low-salt diet can cause the body to change its hormonal balance as it attempts to retain sodium. This leads to a 400 chance of heart attack in those with high blood pressure and low sodium intake Supplement Magnesium to 1500 mg Certain chelated forms are better absorbed and you need less. These results suggest that high Mn, when fed in combination with low Mg, disrupts mitochondrial ultrastructure and is associated with the sudden deaths previously reported. NEW: Eliminate ordinary sugar and refined carbohydrates. John Ely’s 30-year theory that sugar competes with ascorbic acid C for insulin-mediated uptake into cells. Consuming too much sugar and refined carbs can effectively crowd out Vitamin C. Supplement Vitamin K to 40 mg to help regulate calcium from soft tissues into bones Note: Prescription blood “thinning” drugs such as Warfarin and Coumadin interfere with vitamin K. These drugs should never be prescribed for heart patients. They have been proven to cause rapid calcification of soft tissues in animal studies and there is evidence that they cause hard arteries in humans. Patients on “rat poison” style blood thinners should avoid vitamin K until they find a nutritionally oriented physician to help wean them. Blood thinner substitutes to the prescription drugs include: 2000 IU Unique-E A. C. Grace arginine mg grape seed extract, fish oils, etc. Add a good mineral 13 Supplement the amino acids Taurine, Arginine and Carnitine to 3 g R. Fonorow Cardiovascular Diseases Those few species that fail to synthesize ascorbic acid C are prone to a form of ?heart disease? that is not prevalent in other species. The theory that Cardiovascular Disease is related to a deficiency of vitamin C was first proposed by the Canadian physician G. He found that atherosclerotic plaques form over vitamin-C-starved vascular tissues in both guinea pigs and human beings. In 1989, after the discoveries of the Lp cholesterol molecule 1964 and its lysine binding sites 1987 Linus Pauling and his associate Matthias Rath formulated a unified theory of heart disease and invented a cure. Vitamin C and lysine proline in large amounts become Lp binding inhibitors that restore vascular health and are patented to destroy atherosclerotic plaques. Heart disease is a misnomer the underlying disease process reduces the supply of blood to the heart and other organs leading to angina cramp” heart attack and stroke. The disease is characterized by scab-like build-ups that grow on the walls of blood vessels. The correct terminology for this disease process is chronic scurvy, a slower form of the classic vitamin C deficiency disease. The hypothesis that CVD is an ascorbic acid C deficiency disease was first conceived and tested in Canada. Willis devised a method of photographing plaques with X-rays and observed that atherosclerotic plaques were not uniformly distributed throughout the vascular system rather these “blockages” are concentrated near the heart, where arteries are constantly bent or squeezed. Another Canadian, Paterson, had found that the tissues of heart patients were generally depleted of vitamin C, and it was well known that vitamin C is required for strong and healthy arteries. Willis reasoned that only the mechanical stress caused by the pulse could explain the typical pattern of atherosclerosis. To Willis, the body was laying down plaque precisely where it was needed in order to stabilize the vascular system. By the late 1980s, medical researchers had made several intriguing discoveries. First came the discovery that heart disease begins with a lesion, a crack or stress fracture, in the arterial wall. The question became, and remains, as to the cause of these lesions in human beings since they do not arise in most other animals. Then a variant of the so-called “bad” LDL cholesterol called lipoprotein or Lp for short, was studied and found to be really bad. Lp is sticky because of receptors on the surface of the molecule called lysine binding sites. Work that led to the 1987 Nobel prize in medicine discovered that lysine proline binding sites cause the formation of atherosclerotic plaques. Germany examined plaques post mortem and found only Lp not ordinary LDL cholesterol. Lp was the genetic difference between beings that suffer cardiovascular disease and those that do not. Lp had evolved only in species that do not make their own vitamin C – e.g. humans and guinea pigs. Pauling and Rath repeated the earlier Willis experiments, but this time they monitored Lp They discovered that it becomes elevated in guinea pigs deprived of vitamin C, but not in the controls. These experiments connected elevated-Lp with low serum vitamin C. They realized that in most species, sufficient ascorbic acid will prevent stress fractures, but in those species that suffer chronic scurvy, Lp had evolved to patch cracked blood vessels. As chronic scurvy progresses, the liver produces more Lp molecules. As the number of Lp molecules increases, they tend to deposit on top of existing plaque formations. When the healing process overshoots, the arteries narrow and the flow of blood is reduced. The Lp molecule has a finite number of lysine binding sites – points of attachment to lysine. Pauling’s invention – the cure for heart disease – is to increase the serum concentration of the amino acid lysine enough to make the Lp unattractive. After all the Lp molecule’s binding receptors are filled with the free lysine floating in the blood, the Lp molecule becomes as harmless as ordinary LDL cholesterol. Pauling and Rath called the substances that treat chronic scurvy and destroy existing plaques Lp binding inhibitors. Vitamin C, to increase collagen production and to improve the health and strength of arteries, and lysine, to prevent and to dissolve Lp plaques, are the primary binding inhibitors. These substances taken together are clinically effective. Linus Pauling believed that chronic scurvy can be prevented with an orthomolecular daily intake of between 3,000 to 10,000 mg or more vitamin C. This amount approximates what the animals synthesize, and matching animal production is the reason Pauling ingested 18,000 mg daily. Pauling and Rath’s invention for destroying existing atherosclerotic plaques is the large amount of another essential nutrient, the amino acid lysine. Pauling filmed a video lecture in which he recommended that heart patients take between 2,000 and 6,000 mg of lysine daily with their vitamin C if serum Lp is elevated Neither vitamin C nor lysine have any known lethal dose. The Lp binding inhibitors become the Pauling Therapy for heart disease only at high dosages, between vitamin 3 to 18 g ascorbic acid and 3 to 6 g lysine. In his video, Pauling recounts the first cases where his high vitamin C and lysine therapy quickly resolved advanced cardiovascular disease in humans. The effect is so pronounced, and the inhibitors are so nontoxic, that Pauling doubted a clinical study was even necessary. Recently, the amino acid proline was found to be an even more effective Lp binding inhibitor than lysine in vitro. Adding between .5 and 2 g proline may be of significant additional benefit. When serum Lp is elevated, Lp binding inhibitors can profoundly interfere with the disease process. Binding inhibitor formulas that include proline have been documented to lower Lp in six to 14 months. In cases where Lp is not reduced, binding inhibitors become even more important to neutralize Lp regardless of their effect on serum Lp Recently a reevaluation of the Framingham Heart study that Lp and not ordinary LDL is highly predictive of CVD and Oxford found that elevated Lp increases the risk of heart attack and stroke by 70 The on-going lack of scientific curiosity or interest by organized medicine in the Pauling theory and Pauling’s high-dose therapy may well be recognized as the greatest lapse of the 20th century.

Lowering Estrogen Levels In Older men

Estrogen is not something most guys think about and yet there is a body of evidence out there that indicates perhaps they should. It is IMPORTANT to know what one’s estrogen levels are in regards to their overall health and how to reduce that estrogen both naturally and with a prescription drug if necessary. Here is an article by the “Life Extension Folks” that address the issue and why you need to have your estrogen levels tested especially if you are a man over the age of 50 and also a diabetic. There is a lot of hype about boosting one’s testosterone lately and thinks perhaps NOT enough about also checking and controlling estrogen levels at the same time. If you are on testosterone gels or creams or supplements, then you should ask your doctor to also test your estrogen levels or perhaps contact the Life Extension Folks and they can also do it. At the time of this post the test runs approximately $269.00 as opposed to upwards of $1000 at an outside lab or ordered by your doctor. You need to know what your FREE testosterone levels and your estrogen levels are if you want to stay healthy and enjoy your later years.

William Faloon

When we started offering comprehensive blood test back in 1996, men did not understand why we were checking their estrogen Back in those days, estrogen was considered a hormone of importance only to women. We tested estrogen based on published data indicating that when estrogen levels are unbalanced, the risk of degenerative disease in aging men skyrockets. Men with even slightly elevated estrogen levels doubled risk of stroke and had far higher incidences of coronary artery disease. Insufficient on the other hand, predisposes men to osteoporosis bone fracture. The fact that 99 men today have no what their blood estrogen levels helps explain the epidemic age-related disease is bankrupting this nation medical system.

New Study Published in the Journal of the American Medical Association

Conventional doctors tend to ignore hard science until it appears in their own medical journals. A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association measured blood estradiol dominant estrogen in 501 with chronic heart failure. Compared to men in the balanced quintile, men in the lowest quintile were 317 likely to die during a 3-year follow-up, while men in the highest quintile were 133 likely to die. This is virtually the ideal range that Life Extension long recommended male members strive for. The dramatic increase mortality in men with unbalanced estradiol levels either too high or too low is nothing short of astounding . It uncovers a gaping hole in conventional cardiology practice that is easily correctable. This study revealing the lethal dangers of estrogen imbalance was published in conventional medicine Bastille of knowledge Journal of the American Medical Association. Life Extension who take aggressive approaches to maintain their serum estradiol in optimal

Low Estradiol and Predict Mortality in Aging Men

Sales of testosterone replacement drugs surged more than 20-fold in response to studies linking low to a host of common maladies. Men with low testosterone 65 all-cause mortality, while men with low estradiol suffered 54 more deaths. Those men low in estradiol and testosterone were almost twice as likely to die 96 increase in mortality compared to men in the optimal ranges. This large study of aged men corroborates prior published reports linking imbalances of testosterone and estradiol with greater incidences of degenerative disease and death.

Women synthesize most of their estrogen in their ovaries other reproductive tissues. Since men lack this female anatomy, they need to produce estrogen through a process involving an enzyme called aromatase transforms testosterone estradiol.

Aging men sometimes have too much aromatase which causes their testosterone to convert to excess estradiol. This results in depletion vital testosterone while spiking to unsafe ranges. Some men lack aromatase suffer an estrogen deficit. Other men produce so little endogenous testosterone that there is not enough to convert into estrogen, which causes low of both free testosterone and estradiol. Fortunately, no matter what the underlying cause, aging men can easily achieve optimal free testosterone and estradiol levels. Free testosterone the unbound that is biologically available to cell receptor sites throughout the body. Measuring free testosterone levels is the most accurate way of assessing testosterone status in aging men.

How Aging Men Can Control Estrogen Levels

An epidemic problem we at Life Extension in aging male members is insufficient free testosterone, less than 15-20 of serum. When accompanied by excess estradiol 30 pg of serum this can signal excess aromatase enzyme activity. Excess aromatase men of their testosterone exposing them to higher than desirable estradiol. Aromatase be suppressed with absorbable of chrysin plant flavonoid and lignans as those extracted from the Norway spruce tree If these nutrients fail to reduce estradiol adequately, then we suggest that men ask their doctor to prescribe an aromatase-inhibiting like Arimidex the very low dose of 0.5 mg a week. When aromatase properly suppressed, estradiol are reduced to safe ranges, while free testosterone increases, since less testosterone is being aromatized into estradiol.

Why Some Men Need Topical Testosterone Creams

Most testosterone a man body emanates from the testes. Aging results in a decline testicular output, thus necessitating the topical application of a testosterone cream restore this vital hormone to youthful levels. Ideal free serum testosterone for most aging men are between 20-25 As you may surmise, a man who produces too little testosterone risks a lethal deficiency of both free testosterone and estradiol. In the presence of insufficient production, some aging men are vulnerable to low free testosterone low estradiol according to the latest study almost doubles risk of dying over a 4.5 year period!

Critical Importance of Blood Testing

Today conventional physicians prescribe blood tests check glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides, but rarely check their male patients free testosterone estradiol

When looking at the horrific-ally high mortality associated with imbalances these critical hormones, it becomes strikingly apparent that a significant number of heart attacks, strokes, bone fractures, and other degenerative diseases are easily preventable . One reason these hormone blood tests are not normally prescribed is their high retail cost, and the fact that many insurance companies refuse to pay for them. As a member the Life Extension Foundation don have to be victimized by conventional medical ignorance, high prices, or insurance company indifference.

Take Charge of Your Health with Low-Cost Blood Testing

Boosting Testosterone By Controlling Estrogen

As men grow older, maintaining appropriate testosterone levels and controlling estrogen become major health factors, especially for type 2 diabetics. Even though you may be on creams, gels or testosterone boosting natural supplements, your body may be converting too much of that testosterone into estrogen and causing problems. Are there any natural supplements and or foods that can help older men keep their estrogen levels under control while boosting their T. Apparently there are and some of them are available at your local grocery store. For they are life to those who find them And health to all their body. Here is a link and some information about boosting FREE testosterone in your system while controlling excess estrogen. Eating cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower and cabbage can help. However, Life Extension Foundation seem to have overcome these underlying issues by including piperine in their formulation for greater absorb ability. However, it should be noted that one study showed Chrysin inhibiting the conversion of T4 to T3 and thus negatively impacting thyroid function . In addition to helping with estrogen levels in men, these veggies have anti-cancer properties and have been proven to help prevent cataracts and age related macular degeneration. You can eat broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts and kale RAW with a healthy vegetable dip or they can be lightly steamed and eaten that way. Green beans and kale along with broccoli steamed is a good place to start. DON’T over cook…….light steaming is okay and can be enjoyed with some light vinaigrette dressing and or real butter and pepper to taste. http: EXCERPT: What are the benefits of the sulfur compounds found in cruciferous vegetables? Broccoli, and the other members of the cruciferous family of vegetables, pack a powerful punch when it comes to cancer prevention. The cancer protective properties of crucifers such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, and kale are attributed to the fact that these foods contain substantial quantities of the phytonutrients called isothiocyanates, specifically two isothiocyanates called sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol. Research indicates that sulforaphane has the ability to increase the capacity of the liver to detoxify harmful, cancer-causing compounds. Specifically, sulforaphane increases the activity of the liver’s Phase 2 detoxification enzymes. These enzymes include glutathione transferases, NAD quinone reductase, and glucuronosyltransferases are well known for their ability to clear a wide variety of toxic compounds from the body including not only many carcinogens, but also many reactive oxygen species, a particularly nasty type of free radical. By jump starting these important detoxification enzymes, compounds in crucifers provide protection against cell mutations, cancer and numerous other harmful effects that would otherwise be caused by these toxins. Research on indole-3-carbinol shows this compound helps deactivate a potent estrogen metabolite promotes tumor growth, especially in estrogen-sensitive breast cells. Indole-3-carbinol has been shown to suppress not only breast tumor cell growth, but also cancer cell metastasis movement of cancerous cells to other parts of the body A study published in the August 2003 issue of the International Journal of Cancersuggests that eating lots of cruciferous vegetables may provide a significant survival advantage for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer . One of the most aggressive cancers, ovarian cancer claims the lives of 14,000 American women each year. For about 7 years, a team of Australian researchers at Queensland Institute of Medical Research in Brisbane followed a group of 609 women newly diagnosed with ovarian cancer when the study began. Those who had eaten the most vegetables and vitamin E-containing foods during the year before they were diagnosed were most likely to survive for at least five years after diagnosis. While the overall five-year survival rate among study subjects was 45 women who ate more than 5 servings a day of all types of vegetables had a better prognosis: 50 were alive five years after diagnosis. Cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and broccoli, were especially beneficial: 49 of those who ate nearly a serving a day were still alive after five years compared to 42 who ate half a serving. Researchers theorize that crucifers’ protective effects are due to their high content of isothiacyanates, specifically indole-3-carbinol and sulforaphane. These compounds not only increase the excretion of the form of estrogen linked to breast cancer, but dramatically improve the body’s ability to eliminate numerous carcinogens. While being slim also conferred a slight survival advantage in this study, only eating lots of vegetables, particularly cruciferous vegetables was helpful taking supplements had no effect. Dietary influences on survival after ovarian cancer Int J Cancer. September 30, 2003 In addition to helping your body protect itself from cancer, cruciferous vegetables are also believed to help prevent cataracts and age-related macular degeneration, two debilitating diseases that can lead to vision impairment and blindness. These vegetables also contain a vast array of the vitamins and minerals that are necessary for optimal health. Taking advantage of the health benefits that the cruciferous vegetables have to offer is easy: Simply eat at least one serving from this versatile and varied family of vegetables every day. If you need help getting started, try the following suggestions: 1. All of the crucifers are wonderful when lightly steamed. For a little extra pizzaz, sprinkle steamed broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, or kale with lemon. Steamed broccoli, cauliflower, and kale make a delicious addition to marinara sauce. Or for a tomato-free pasta meal, toss pasta with olive oil, pine nuts and healthy saut broccoli florets. Pur cooked broccoli and cauliflower, then combine with seasonings of your choice to make a simple, yet delicious, soup. When you prepare a vegetable tray, be sure to include broccoli, cauliflower, and chopped sections of red cabbage. Saut cauliflower with garlic, minced ginger and tamari. For cauliflower with a vivid yellow color, boil it briefly with a spoonful of turmeric or generous pinch of saffron. Cabbage leaves are a great way to reinspire leftovers. Spoon some leftovers such as rice salad or a vegetable mixture onto the center of a cabbage leaf and roll into a neat little package. Enjoy your easy and healthy version of stuffed cabbage, a traditional eastern European dish. To make a unique coleslaw combine shredded red and white cabbage with soy mayonnaise.

C-salts Vitamin C For Heart and Overall Health

I am now on my 4th day of taking C-salts and find this so much easier than trying to swallow 8 to 10 vitamin C tablets the size of first digit of my little finger. One rounded teaspoon is equal to 4000 mg of vitamin C, along with 145 mg of calcium, 55 mg of magnesium, 2 mg of zinc and 365 mg of potassium in an effervescent tasty drink making it an easy and pleasant way to adhere to the Vitamin C dose recommended by Dr. L-Lysine amino acid 1000 mg of L-Proline amino acid along with Vitamin E and CoQ10, and you are on your way to a healthier you. I would recommend a good quality Multiple Vitamin, mineral, green food type supplement. Take the Lysine, pro line and other supplements in addition to the C-salts, but do NOT mix powder into the same glass as your C-salts. Did I also mention, I BELIEVE IN THIS THERAPY and there is plenty of evidence to support it. See my posts on the dangerous side effects of Statin drugs as opposed to the safety record of the Linus Pauling “Unified Theory” of heart disease and treatment of same. ONE CAUTION: Do not take mega doses of vitamin C if you are on any sort of blood thinner such as coumadin or plavix or even aspirin therapy.

Watch Our Video And Then Click Here Try C-Salts! THE PROBLEM: the best way to take megadoses 2 – 50 grams of Vitamin C every day? All the solutions to this problem, until now, have had disadvantages such as: High acidity and sour taste acid, crystal and tablet form High sodium tablets sodium ascorbate crystals Many persons buy the least expensive form of C, ascorbic acid crystals, and mask the taste by mixing in orange juice, not realizing the high-sugar juice costs more than the C. THE SOLUTION: – You’ll get your vitamin C as a good-tasting carbonated mineral water beverage, PLUS a good supply of hard-to-get minerals all in solution as their highly-absorbable ascorbates. Of course, there are NO sugars, flavors, or colors of any sort. In fact, there are NO excipients whatever, you get just what’s on the label. IT TAKES JUST A FEW SECONDS mix up a C-SALTS drink and is just the ticket as a digestive aid after meals, or just as a convenient, pleasant source of megadoses of vitamin C. In addition, over 94 of the ascorbic acid’s acidity is neutralized by the effervescent reaction resulting in a carbonated drink similar to mineral water. EASY DIRECTIONS: JUST 1 OUNCE of cold water onto a slightly rounded teaspoon of C-SALTS. Add more water or juice only after the bubbling subsides. NOTICE: imperative to understand that with EACH drink you’ll be getting 4 full grams milligrams of vitamin C. Most persons can handle this amount in one dose, but some who are unaccustomed to large doses can easily get diarrhea and gas with as little as 1 gram. It’ll help to take your C-SALTS with or after a meal. C-SALTS looks and tastes much like mineral water, so be careful how much you take. IMPORTANT: REPLACE THE CAP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE since C-SALTS quickly absorbs water from the air. DO NOT REFRIGERATE C-SALTS since humidity in the bottle will condense onto the crystals and start the reaction. Effervescent forms of Vitamin C are VERY HUMIDITY-SENSITIVE. C-SALTS will effervesce pour easily for two years after opening if kept properly. Folks in humid areas such as Florida, Hawaii, or Louisiana: TAKE SPECIAL CARE!

Lipoprotein Although lipoprotein was discovered about 50 years ago, surprisingly little is known about its cellular and biochemical functions. Lp consists of a low-density lipoprotein particle containing an apolipoprotein B-100 molecule linked to another apoprotein molecule called apo which determines the functional characteristics of Lp and largely accounts for its heart disease risk. Blood concentrations of Lp are genetically determined and generally highest in blacks and lowest in whites. While concentrations of Lp are stable in individuals over time, they can vary among people by 1,000-fold. There are many genetic variations in the size of the apo particle in Lp which accounts for the variable association with cardiovasc ular pathologies and events. Many large-scale studies have explored the relationship between Lp and cardiovascular diseases, consistently finding an association between high Lp levels and atherosclerosis, heart attacks, or stroke Lp has been validated as a significant, independent risk factor for heart disease. Despite these significant correlations, the precise role of Lp in elevating the risk for heart disease and stroke remains speculative. Lp seems to be proinflammatory it activates NF- a transcription factor that binds to DNA and stimulates inflammatory processes. As a consequence, Lp promotes the recruitment of immune cells called monocytes to the intima, the innermost layer of blood vessels and arteries facing the blood stream. Once monocytes have migrated to the intima, they can become engorged with oxidized LDL cells initiate atherosclerotic lesion formation. Lp also has been found to impair fibrinolysis, the process by which fibrin in blood clots is broken down by plasmin, the active form of plasminogen. By interfering with this process, Lp contributes to thrombosis clot formation that could result in a heart attack or stroke. Clot formation in the arterial wall, called thrombosis, contributes to the growth of atherosclerotic lesions thrombosis, on the other hand, blocks an artery and triggers a heart attack or stroke. Lp may also enhance coagulation, which could further contribute to thrombotic events.

In 1990, Linus Pauling and a cardiologist colleague published a paper entitled Lipoprotein is a surrogate for ascorbate Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences the putative relationship between vitamin C and Lp They hypothesized that Lp serves as an evolutionary surrogate or substitute for vitamin C in animals that do not endogenously synthesize vitamin C, such as humans and monkeys. Indeed, Lp is found in few species, mainly those that do not synthesize vitamin C. Since the absence of detectable Lp in most species all of which synthesize vitamin C not seem to be biologically disadvantageous, it was also proposed that vitamin C serves as a surrogate for Lp In a subsequent paper, Pauling noted that our ancestors loss of the ability to synthesize vitamin C and the acquisition of Lp synthesis both occurred about 40 million years ago. As a surrogate for vitamin C and owing to its pro-clotting functions, Pauling and his colleague suggested that Lp might help repair lesions in the arterial wall caused by mechanical stress, free radicals, and sub-optimum collagen synthesis when vitamin C concentrations are insufficient. However, atherosclerosis results from the chronic, pathological deposition of Lp A corollary is that adequate vitamin C status in humans, such as that achieved by sufficient intake, may help prevent arterial damage and reduce the need for the deposition of Lp and lower its levels, thus preventing the development of atherosclerotic plaque. Scurvy caused by vitamin C deficiency results in capillary fragility and hemorrhage. Lp may help by inhibiting fibrinolysis, thus preventing hemorrhage. Pauling and his colleague also suggested that the apo part of Lp rich in disulfide groups, may function as an antioxidant, thereby inhibiting LDL lipid oxidation associated with plaque formation. In this way, Lp also would serve as a surrogate for the premier water soluble antioxidant C its levels are low. In their first PNAS Pauling and his colleague proposed that Lp would be present in guinea pigs, a species unable to synthesize vitamin C. In a subsequent paper in PNAS 1990, they showed that, indeed, Lp is present in guinea pigs. They further found that vitamin C deficiency in these animals promoted the development of atherosclerotic plaque and that supplemental vitamin C prevented its development and the accumulation of Lp in the arterial wall. They also suggested that depletion of vitamin C increases the permeability of the vascular wall, thereby contributing to the infiltration of Lp and leading to plaque formation and mural thrombosis. In chronic vitamin C insufficiency, the prolonged action and accumulation of Lp may result in the development of plaque thrombosis and adverse events like heart attacks and strokes related to occlusive thrombosis. The PNAS were followed up with a series of papers published in the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine outlining the putative relationship between vitamin C, Lp heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and other diseases, emphasizing, especially, the role of chronic vitamin C deficiency in their etiology.

Lowering Lp Unfortunately, neither diet nor exercise has been found to lower Lp levels. There have been at least three randomized, controlled trials to evaluate the effect of supplemental vitamin C on Lp levels. A 1994 study with 124 healthy men and women aged 17 to 74 detected no significant effect of 1 or 2 grams per day of vitamin C for one month on Lp levels. Published in 1995, another study enrolled 44 patients with coronary heart disease who received either placebo or 4.5 grams per day of vitamin C for 12 weeks. The authors reported no statistically significant effect of vitamin C on Lp levels. The last study, published in 2000, enrolled 101 healthy men and women who received either placebo or 1 gram per day of vitamin C for eight months. Again, the authors reported no significant effect of vitamin C on Lp levels. These results conflict with an earlier uncontrolled, small study published in 1992 with 11 heart disease patients given 9 grams per day of vitamin C for 14 weeks. In that study, vitamin C lowered Lp levels by an average of 27 Overall, these studies suggest that supplemental vitamin C does not lower Lp levels in humans. However, a few strategies to lower Lp levels have been suggested by some small studies. One study of 37 heart disease patients in 2002 found that daily doses of 81 mg of aspirin for six months lowered Lp levels by an average of 82 in those subjects with high baseline levels of Lp mg Another study in 1998 with 73 hypercholesterolemic patients reported that a daily dose of 2,000 mg of niacin for 96 weeks lowered Lp levels by an average of 39 This dose of niacin is almost 60 times higher than the tolerable upper intake level highest daily intake likely to pose no risk of adverse effects 35 mg for adults. The time-release niacin used in the 1998 study was generally well tolerated common side effects included skin flushing and slightly elevated liver enzymes. Other studies have reported that L-carnitine, a nonprotein amino acid, lowers Lp levels. One study in 2000 found that 2 grams per day of L-carnitine lowered Lp levels by nearly 8 in 36 subjects with high baseline levels of Lp mg In 2003, a randomized, placebo-controlled study in 94 diabetic patients found that Lp levels were lowered by 21 in patients taking 2 grams per day of L-carnitine for six months.

Lysine, Lp and Angina

The amino acids lysine and proline are chemically converted to other forms and hydroxyproline, respectively by vitamin C for collagen synthesis. In the case of chronic vitamin C deficiency, these conversions cannot take place effectively, and collagen synthesis is impaired, leading to the loss of the structural integrity of vascular and other tissues and subsequent hemorrhage, as previously mentioned. In this situation, fibrin, by promoting clot formation, may be valuable in protecting against blood loss. Pauling and his colleague speculated that Lp binds excessively to fibrin in clots, impairing fibrin breakdown by plasmin. In this case, lysine might help remove chronically deposited Lp or interfere with its deposition. Thus, lysine may have therapeutic benefit in atherosclerosis and angina, which is caused by poor blood flow in arteries compromised by atherosclerosis. Pauling published three case reports in the early 1990s in the JOM the rapid relief from severe, exercise-induced angina in heart disease patients taking 3-6 grams each of lysine and vitamin C. There are some plausible explanations as to why vitamin C may have that effect, mainly related to its beneficial effect on endothelial function, i.e., its ability to relax blood vessels and improve blood flow via stabilization or increase of tetrahydrobiopterin enzyme cofactor that controls nitric oxide synthesis the role of lysine remains obscure. In two of the three case reports by Pauling, the patients had been taking large doses of vitamin C, but relief was only observed after the implementation of lysine. Because the relief from angina was so rapid in the reported cases, Pauling suggested, as previously mentioned, that lysine binding to Lp quickly remove Lp from plaque and also prevent its deposition in developing plaque. Unfortunately, no controlled clinical trials have yet been published to validate or refute this strategy to control angina, and the molecular interactions between lysine and Lp aren known. Lysine is found in the diet, and it can be used in the body as a precursor to synthesize carnitine, an amino acid critical for mitochondrial energy production in cells. In his first case report on the amelioration of angina with vitamin C and lysine, Pauling noted that vitamin C is important in the hydroxylation reactions that synthesize carnitine from lysine. A number of studies have found that carnitine supplementation, as an adjunct to conventional therapy, is useful in treating heart disease, including heart attacks, heart failure, angina, and peripheral arterial disease.

Patents

Several relevant patent applications were filed by Pauling and his collaborator, and three were awarded: of ascorbate and tranexamic acid solution for organ and blood vessel treatment prior to transplantation and treatment of occlusive cardiovascular disease with ascorbate and substances that inhibit the binding of lipoprotein and lysine salt composition and method of use The first of these described the treatment of organs or arteries used in transplantation with a solution containing vitamin C and tranexamic acid, both of which were postulated to inhibit the binding of Lp to blood vessel walls, in order to prevent subsequent atherosclerotic complications. The inventors proposed that this method would have general applications for the prevention and treatment of heart disease, especially atherosclerosis, and utility for coronary bypass patients, diabetics, and patients undergoing hemodialysis or organ transplants. The patent awarded in 1994 explained the putative use of vitamin C, tranexamic acid, lysine, and nicotinic acid to reduce plasma levels of Lp and prevent its binding to the arterial wall, thereby inhibiting atherosclerosis. The final patent addressed the use of lysine, vitamin C, beta-carotene, N -acetyl cysteine precursor for the synthesis of glutathione, an important endogenous antioxidant vitamin E, and nicotinic acid to prevent and treat heart disease. The evidence provided in support of the patent applications was based on experiments with guinea pigs and human aortas obtained postmortem. While animal models of human disease are frequently useful, they do not always predict human outcomes. No data from human clinical trials were presented, so the patent provisions remained largely speculative. It not unusual for patents to be awarded in order for the inventor to establish priority in advance of actual proof.

Finally We know that vitamin C has value in promoting cardiovascular health. It not only reduces the risk for heart disease and stroke but also lowers blood pressure and promotes vasodilation in patients with atherosclerosis, thus improving blood flow that may also attenuate angina. To date, the hypothesized relationship between vitamin C and Lp has been neither proven nor refuted. It also not yet known if lysine itself, rather than serving simply as a precursor for carnitine synthesis, plays an important role in preventing or treating heart disease or angina. And neither the dose-response relationships nor various combinations of micronutrients have been adequately addressed experimentally. Controlled clinical trials are needed to answer these provocative questions. Lastly, there is no compelling evidence from controlled trials that any micronutrient or combination of micronutrients reverses atherosclerosis in humans, although some may inhibit its development or retard its progression.

CyanogenMod contemplates Android without root – Liliputing

Google’s Android is a versatile operating system for mobile devices with support for more than a million apps. But there are some things Android doesn’t do out of the box right now, such as allowing you to make a complete backup of your disk image or blocking advertisements.
Both of those are things you can do on a device that’s been rooted, and there are dozens of other things that you can only do if you first root your device. But the availability of root access on Android devices is sort of a mixed bag.
On the one hand, it’s pretty cool to get complete control over your device. On the other hand, a rooted device is more vulnerable to some security threats than one that hasn’t been rooted because apps can access portions of the operating system that are normally protected.
So Steve Kondik, the founder of the popular CyanogenMod custom version of Android, is starting to think about ways to minimize the need for root access .
There are no plans to offer a version of CyanogenMod that doesn’t include root at least not yet.
But if key apps and functions can run without root access, it would make Android a bit more secure.
As Android matures, Google has added a growing number of security features to the platform. As a side effect, this has made it tougher to gain full root access on Android 4.3 than earlier versions, but it also makes it tougher for malware to seriously mess up your phone or tablet or steal your data.
CyanogenMod already offers users the ability to choose how root access works. You can go into the development settings and decide whether root access should be disabled, enabled for apps, ADB, or both. But if developers can work with Android to enable root-like features without requiring root access, it’d be a lot easier for folks running custom ROMs to leave that “disabled” box checked.
Once upon a time, you couldn’t even easily take a screenshot on an Android phone without root access, but now the feature is built into the operating system. Maybe one day support for apps like Carbon and Titanium Backup will also be built in.

Given that Cyanogenmod has already gone on record with holding back features following grumbling from Google and app developers, e.g. allowing the user to choose to provide a fake phone number or set of contacts to apps that require access to personal data, for privacy reasons than letting them force close if you revoke their permissions to access personal data you can bet that they’re not going to make ad blocking any easier than it already is.
But yay for adding more capabilities that don’t require root. There are some things that probably always will, like the touch emulation methods being used by the authors of analog joystick compatibility packages such as USB Joystick Center, because it’s potentially disastrous to give one app the ability to send touch events to another without the user getting that root permissions dialog.
Fewt
I wonder if they can use sudo to avoid direct access to root. I don’t see any reason why root access couldn’t be restricted with it but it would require app changes I’m sure.
